Three days ago, as I typed

the post regarding the weather, I thought of nothing more than how grateful I was that the school system had come to their senses (and quickly).  I had been out in the driving rain several times during the day and early evening and it was not fun nor safe.  At the time, however, I was not clued into just how dangerous the rain had become.

Not long after I finished the post, I noticed an article about a child who had died in Vienna after falling into a creek swollen by the rains.  Cait read the same article and instantly became concerned, asking, "Do you think it was one of my classmates?"

I told her no, forgetting for a moment that many of her classmates do live in Vienna.  However, whether a classmate or not, it was still someone's child, friend and possibly, sibling.  I thought of the parents and how heartbroken they must be, but didn't think that I would learn much more about it.

Sadly, I did.  Early the next morning, I received an email from my friend, Christy.  The child who had died was the son of her friend, Anna.  I had never met Anna in person, but read her blog and loved her crafty ideas.  I had discovered the blog through Christy and Jill and had bookmarked it as I enjoyed her style and her wit.  I had no idea the next time I visited it would be to leave a condolence on the page that housed pictures of happy, smiling children in their annual back to school photo shoot.

Thinking of you, Anna, and your family and many prayers going your way…

Thanks Jen for writing this. When I met Anna last year at BlogHer in NYC, I knew she’d be a friend for life. It’s so heartbreaking …

  2. It’s so unbelievabley, painfully sad, isn’t it?

  3. I still can’t believe that this happened to Anna…to anyone…but especially to her.

You moved me to tears Jen. I am sure you two would be fast friends, were you to meet. She is so lovely, and it just seems so unfair. Not that anyone EVER deserves to lose a child, but that it’s happened to Anna is just unbelievable. So heartbreaking.

  5. I’m local too,and lived in the Bay Area for ages. I never knew Anna but when I heard the story on the news I was so upset, learning she was a blogger later. My heart aches for her and her family.
