Six months ago, I received a "Save the Date" in the mail. It was a cute little magnet that let me know that my cousin would be getting married on August 6th at the Hotel duPont. As it was winter, I was two weeks post (second) surgery and things were gloomy weather-wise, I did what any sane person would do: hopped online and made an immediate reservation for two at the hotel for said weekend.
Now, I had no idea what would happen between then and now, but figured we'd work it out somehow and wing this weekend away. We did, it happened and oh..my…it was…sheer and utter bliss.
Last Thursday, we took the kids up to Massachusetts and safely ensconced them in the care of my in-laws. I ensured that Nicholas would be okay by giving him several "hugs, kisses and pats on the back" and we left early Friday afternoon. Traffic was a nightmare, but we arrived in time for dinner at a local restaurant and had the chance to bump into several family members prior to the big event.
Even more importantly? We checked in and found this upon arrival:

A fabulous, roomy suite with a tub that I would have packed away in the suitcase if I could.
We spent Saturday just enjoying ourselves and prepping for the evening. I had my nails done for the first time in ages, we found the perfect gift, had a leisurely lunch and still had time to fit in a quick workout before the evening began.
Now, I knew it would be a good party. Our family doesn't have terribly big gatherings too often, but when they do, they are done right. The wedding ceremony was simple, yet exquisite and led into an amazingly gorgeous reception.

From the tables of family wedding photos (including my parents, grandparents and great-grandparents) to the subtle lighting from the amazing chandeliers, the reception area could not have been more breath-taking. I could go on and on about the evening…the wine, the food, the music (my dancing…oh, MY!), but the best part is a feeling I'm not sure I can capture in words.
Somehow, somewhere in the middle of the evening, a very good feeling struck me…and stayed with me for the rest of the night. For the first time in ages, I truly lost that undercurrent of sadness that has been with me since November 10 and felt gloriously, unabashedly happy. I danced like a fool (and my cousin will forever have the video to prove that I DO know the words to Ke$ha's Tik Tok!) and enjoyed myself like I haven't in months. Whether it was that few people knew about 'it' or that the focus was just on another's excitement, I'm not sure. I just know that for one amazing evening, all of my worries and fears melted away. I was able to think more clearly than I have in months (despite a sip or two of wine) and just hope I can hold onto that feeling just a little bit longer.

Lest, I forget, room service delivered a very sweet and perfect ending to the evening….
