Last weekend

we had the immense honor of watching Nate-the-Great for the weekend.  We had offered to watch the Salty Pup so that the Salty parents could have a bit of a weekend getaway.  They have also had a crazy spring and we thought they could use a night off or two.  (No, I won't go on and on about how much we owe them for all they have done for us and our children over the years…oops.)

Since we were leaving the house for 2.5 days, it took approximately 3 hours to pack 3 bags and we STILL forgot stuff.  We also had several errands to run, but still managed to arrive at the Salty-stead early enough to avoid major Friday traffic hassles.  Since Dr. Salty Dog had to work Friday night, we had plenty of warm-up time with Nate while his dad was still in sight.

We had a fun evening hanging out, blowing bubbles on the front porch, noshing on yummy ziti and squash, and in general, relaxing.  Nicholas and I took a long walk and admired the boats at the marina across the street and the girls enjoyed reading, reading and reading a bit more.  We had a very pleasant evening, though really not much Nate watching until the Salty Dogs departed very late that evening.

Shannon had thoughtfully brought Peter back to their house with her and as of Saturday a.m. (um, 6:30 ish?) , we were on duty.  Nate was our alarm and he seemed a bit nervous when I walked in his room instead of mom or dad.  When he then saw Peter (or "Uncle Beekah"), he was just stunned.  Peter was equally stunned, and the man who has 3 children of his own, who can do amazing secret agenty things and travel the world without blinking an eye, looked at me and said,

"What do we do now?!"

Um, breakfast anyone?  Yes, that was it.  Nate was a bit suspect of me until I whipped out the yogurt, multi-grain bagel and a banana for good measure.  I sipped my coffee and nibbled my bagel while he enjoyed his fare and he was grinning ear to ear the entire time.
